Police FC may be running out in their regular blue strip when the 2010 season kicks off in April however the lawmen are expected to have fresh faces in the lineup.

“We definitely will be making changes this season,” said Police FC Technical Director Mohammed Isa this week blaming a lack of passion for last season’s bottom of the table finish.

“We have not made decisions yet, but we will begin our pre-season next Tuesday at the St James Barracks,” continued Isa. “We have a number of recruits who have just passed out into the service and are into the football. So our pool will be bigger to chose from.”

Isa also hinted that there could be changes in the technical staff as well following last season’s cellar performance.

“We are looking into the coaching staff as well, however it’s too early to comment on what will happen over the next few weeks,” he said.

The lawmen joined the TT Pro League in 2008 and finished the League Championship ninth with 5:1:21 in 27 matches. In 2008 under the directive of then Commissioner of Police, Trevor Paul, the lawmen were restricted from participating in all sporting disciplines. They then returned to the Pro League in 2009, however the season off proved to be the worst recipe for the lawmen coached by Richard De Coteau finishing 11th – bottom of the table— with just 2 wins, 3 draws and 15 losses after 20 matches.

“It was a good and bad season,” said Isa over his team’s disappointing 2009 run. “I think we started good but then it was bad right down to the end.”

The Police FC Technical Director said that missing the 2008 season contributed to last season’s efforts, however it was the lack of passion by players to play for the club which stood as the main concern.

“In 2008 most of our players scattered around playing for other clubs and may have performed for whatever incentives were given to them. But last season they returned as Police FC and showed a complete lack of passion,” said a disgruntled Isa.

He added that they are committed to change this season and believes that the service is equipped with players for a much better season in 2010.

“We intend to look at players who really have the passion,” Isa added. “We have some young players who did yeoman service for Police in the later part of the season and we will take that into huge consideration as well.”
