Chief Executive Officer of North East Stars, Brent Sancho today announced that the Sangre Grande-based club will be campaigning in the T&T Pro League this season following a one-year break in 2009.
This annoncement follows speculation over the past few weeks on the club’s appearance in the League but Sancho, a former 2006 World Cup defender, said that the necessary matters have been taken care of and the club is now looking forward to challenging the rest of the field.
"We have big plans underway at North East Stars and decided to take a season away from competetive football to concentrate on matters off the field" said Sancho.
"Together with club President, Daryll Mahabir and Director of Football, former International Kevin Jeffrey, we decided to rebuild the club.
“We are no longer just a football team, we are now in the business of football. By concentrating on developing long term partnerships with sponsors, we are now able to give back to the community in Sandre Grande and the whole North East Region. We are a community football club and we aim to become the very pulse of Sandre Grande,” Sancho added.
He went on to say that further announcements will be made in the next few days concerning the exciting partnership with a major cable tv company. In the meantime, Jeffrey announced that open trials will be held this Saturday at the Arima Velodrome.
Jeffrey commented: "We already have a strong nucleus of players and are in discussions with several overseas Internationals. However, we are strongly focused on nurturing local untapped young talent and hope to unearth some diamonds in these trials".
All interested and passionate footballers are asked to report to the Arima Veladrome at 9:30am with a white t -shirt. Jefferey can be contacted at 771-1443 for more info on the trial.
