A superb first half freekick by leading goalscorer Devon Jorsling separated Defence Force from visiting FC SouthEnd on Saturday afternoon at the Larry Gomes Stadium with a 1-0 victory.

The victory extended the soldiers winning streak to four in as many matches and they currently have 12 points, and are at the top of the 2010 Digicel Pro League Championship standings.

Defence Force are also five points clear of the closest team W Connection following their 1-0 win against SouthEnd.

SouthEnd held their own for the most part against the leaders however, they failed on a couple chances before Jorsling’s item.

Sean Narcis poked a left footed shot just high and wide of the far corner in the 32nd minute after meeting a decent pass from Jorsling.

And four minutes later, Kevon Carter’s attempted cross from the right scraped Aquelius Sylvester’s crossbar.

But Jorsling was on target in the 43rd after winning himself a freekick just outside the area. Jorsling registered his fifth goal in four matches with a powerfully struck left footed curling effort giving Sylvester no chance for the 1-0 score.

Despite having the edge on their opponents in the second period, the soldiers where limited in terms of opportunities.

Carter had a great opportunity in the 84th minute but he wasted it with goalkeeper Sylvester at his mercy.

The speedy attacker was played through by Jorsling but touched a tame effort to the SouthEnd goalie's right which was tipped away before being cleared out for a corner.

And across in Tobago, visiting DIRECTV North East Stars were rescued by Errol McFarlane against bottom of the table Tobago United for a 2-2 draw.

McFarlane who took his goal tally to five opened the scoring in the 30th minute. But the home side leveled the scores in the 38th minute through Kevon Woodley and then took a 2-1 advantage in the 45th minute thanks to a Dwayne Jack item.

Mc Farlane wrapped up his double pulling the scores level 2-2 five minutes from time giving both sides a point each.

Stars are in midtable with six points, while Saturday’s point at the Dwight Yorke Stadium became United’s first point this season as they sit 11th on the standings.

Action will continue on Tuesday when Police FC host San Juan Jabloteh from 5pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium.
