Defence Force and Trinidad and Tobago winger Kevon Carter is expected to be discharged from the Southern Medical Centre on Friday morning after undergoing a successful surgery to his broken right leg.
Carter who suffered the injury last Friday at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium under a challenge by St. Ann’s Rangers defender Elijah Belgrave, went under the knife on Wednesday afternoon with Dr. Francis Mulraine as the practicing surgeon.
According to Defence Force FC Public Relations Officer, Christopher Durity, the surgery was a success and Carter remains in high spirits.
“The surgery was successful,” said Durity. “They have estimated three months for the bone to heal and a further three months for rehabilitation before Carter returns to the training field.
“He is expected to be discharged on Friday morning and has already gone through the techniques of moving around with crutches,” added the Defence Force FC PRO.
The 26 yearold Carter who will misses next month’s Digicel Caribbean Championship with the Trinidad and Tobago Men’s Senior Team will also miss the remainder of the TT Pro League season.
Meantime Defence Force moves on into the semi-final of the First Citizens Cup after a 2-1 penalty win over Rangers following a 0-0 regulation time result.
“Everybody is still bothered by Carter’s broken leg,” Durity added. “But the guys trained this morning and are trying to refocus on the game.
“I think they realize that they now need to get the job done for him (Carter) and that’s going to be the revenge.
“But for Carter, he is still the modest guy as always. I spoke with him yesterday and he is in good spirits. He has no animosity over the situation or anyone and is more taking things in stride at the moment.”
Carter’s teammates are expected to make a visit to his Cocorite home this weekend to kindle team spirit.
