Unattached Trinidad and Tobago international Darryl Roberts is pursued by TT Pro League club DIRECTV North East Stars and is likely to join coach Shurland David’s roster.
The 27 yearold former Turkish based forward has been training with the Stars—the club of international teammates Stern John, Anthony Wolfe and Seon Power—in the past couple weeks.
“Roberts is someone we have been talking to, and very interested in,” said Stars CEO Brent Sancho.
“He has been training with our team. He wants to be part of the club and our philosophy.
“He is a player that I admire and we are working on having him with us.”
Roberts became a free agent after his three-year contract with Turkcell Super League team Denizlispor ended this year and was on trial last month with Major League Soccer club Portland Timbers.
He is currently in a live-in training camp with the Trinidad and Tobago Senior Team under head coach Otto Pfister in preparation for World Cup qualifiers against Bermuda on Friday 2 September at the Hasely Crawford Stadium and Barbados on September 6 in Bridgetown.
Roberts proved his worth two Sundays ago with the T&T squad creating a penalty (converted by Stern John) and netting a double in the Warriors 3-0 victory against the visitors at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
