Top defensive signing Seon Power and veteran Guyanese defender Charles Pollard shared the same sentiment that their club DIRECTV North East Stars underperformed to a 2-1 defeat against Digicel Pro League Championship debutants T&TEC FC on Friday at the Marvin Lee Stadium.
“Kudos to T&TEC, they wanted it more,” said T&T international defender Power.
Power scored the opening item eight minutes into the match when he headed past goalkeeper Clayton Ince off Kevaughn Connell’s freekick.
“I can’t really enjoy the goal as I would like to because we didn’t get that positive result,” said Power following the Round One Match Day One game.
“No team in the League would want a start like this and it’s now for us to go back to the drawing board.
“We were a bit slow to the ball, second to everything and that cost us the game.
“It’s all about the senior guys going back to camp and lifting the spirits of the guys. The season only now begun and we have a remarkable bunch so it’s about starting from scratch again for our next game,” ended the defender.
T&TEC bounced back with unanswered first half strikes by Sylvester Teesdale (13th minute) and Anthony Noriega (43rd minute) to start with maximum three points.
“It’s disappointing for us,” said Pollard. “I think T&TEC played better. They had a continuous momentum and the two goals were defensive lapses. It’s our first game and we are just trying to get the rhythm together.”
Pollard also responded to questions on the performance of Jamaican goalkeeping import Leon Gordon who had a few nervous moments.
“It’s his first game in the Pro League,” Pollard said. “What happens is that a lot of people underestimate the League. But I think the coaching staff will do their part in getting things right for the rest of the season.”
