Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 15 boy’s national team secured their second win in two matches at the Tournament of the Americas in Cali, Colombia on Sunday.
T&T, following a 3-1 win over Sevilla a day earlier, got a 15th minute goal from St Augustine Secondary midfielder Jesse Joseph in their 1-0 win over Real Sociedad.
The victory keeps T&T in with a chance of advancing out of the group stage of the tournament which includes twenty seven teams in the Under 17 and Under 16 teams, among them the Mexican national under 17 team.
Head coach Shawn Cooper, who is assisted by Leonson Lewis and Ross Russell, described the win as hardfought.
“We had to work a lot harder in the second match for the win as compared the opening match. We possessed the ball well and we got an early goal which set us up nicely for the rest of the match,” Cooper said.
“I would have liked for us to have scored a couple more to take the pressure off but the opponent continues to press as well and I thought we handled them well.
“Overall the two games have been great experiences for the players and has presented us with two good challenges. We expect the games will get even tougher as the tournament progresses but that is what we are here for… to try and get the best possible match practice out of this tournament,” Cooper added.
