TRINIDAD and Tobago Under-17 footballers received another hammering in consecutive matches at the CONCACAF Centre of Excellence, Macoya, last night.
The Europeans fielding a side minus a few of their regular starters, including Arsenal's Jermaine Pennant, took some time to settle. But once they did local goalkeeper Marvin Phillip was in for another battering.
T&T did manage a couple of attempts on goal in the first half however. Striker Kenwyne Jones, T&T's lone scorer against the Americans, had a right foot attempt easily taken by goalkeeper Andrew Lonergan which brought some applause from the few die-hard local supporters.
Jones then had T&T's best attempt of the match, forcing Lonergan to push his powerful shot for a corner kick. But when England went ahead through Stefan Moore in the 39th minute, after a T&T attack broke down, the down-hill slide began.
On 62 minutes Simon Johnson squared from the right for Moore to easily tap home from close up. Eight minutes later Phillips was left picking up the pieces a third time when Marvin Brown flicked on Lionel Morgan's right side cross into the goal.
Moore netted his third item in the 74th minute against a disorganised T&T defence. Down 4-0 at that stage local coach Adegboybe Onigbinde surely would have hoped for something better from his team in the remaining minutes. However, there was no change in play.
Substitute Marvin Brown, put the visitors 5-0 ahead in the 86th minute, and just before the end, after Moore's shot came off the left post, Den Murusad raced in to put the rebound over the line. Fortunately for T & T referee Noel Bynoe blew for an earlier foul.
T&T will now hope for a much improved performance tomorrow against Mexico, who defeated the US 1-0 in the other match last night.
