Ross Russell, assistant coach of the T&T Under-17 football squad, said his players are ready to take care of business in the Caribbean Football Union Qualifiers for next year’s Fifa Under-17 World Cup Finals in Mexico.
T&T will meet St Kitts/Nevis in its opening match of the tournament today at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, from 11 am. Two hours before the enounter, Cuba and Bermuda, the two teams in Group E, will face off at the same venue.
“We will be aiming to take care of things against these other Caribbean teams and move to the final stage and then hopefully on to Mexico,” said Russell, who was handed the reigns of the team in the asbence of coach, Sean Cooper, who is on a coaching course being hosted by the Netherlands Football Association
The final team includes two overseas-based players:
Isaiah Noriega from Houston Dynamo and Tanner Ferriera from Toronto FC, both in Major League Soccer. According to team manager Christopher Gouveia, among the players who have impressed in the build up are Jomal Williams (Caledonia AIA), Duane Muckette (1st FC Santa Rosa) and Damani Richards (Joe Public).
The team has played unbeaten against some Super League and Reserve League teams including Joe Public, Defence Force and United Petrotrin.
