DEREK KING, coach of the Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 football team, is calling for improvement with his squad, despite their 2-1 win over Suriname at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on Friday night, in their Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-20 Men’s Championship Group A meeting.

At the post-game media conference, King, the former national defender, said, “at the end of the day, three points is three points, but I was a bit disappointed, especially with the first half (display). We didn’t start with our structure. I believe the guys (were) a bit frightened but as the game (went) on, we (grew).

“The second half was much better,” he added. “When we really analysed the game, Suriname didn’t really get much chances and, at the end of the day, chances win matches.”

He went on to state, “we were really under-par but we’ll continue to work on the ball movement and the chances. We (threw) away a couple chances and, at international football, when you get chances you have to score.”

The TT Under-20 coach admitted, “what really went well for us (were) the changes, the guys that we brought on, they did well and they lift the standard of the team, and we ended up with the victory.”

Suriname coach Werner Blackson noted, “I want to congratulate the Trinidad team. They played a very good game. The (better) team had gone with the three points.“We did our best to keep possession as long as possible but the Trinidad team put some pressure on us from the beginning,” he continued. “That made it very difficult for us.

“We lost the fight but the war isn’t over yet. We have two games left and we have to get ourselves up to play the next game against Cuba (today).”
