Scarborough Secondary School (SSS) Championship Division team that ruled schools football in Tobago this year made a good impression on the Olympic team headcoach, Angus Eve, though losing to the much more talented and experienced Olympic Under 23 National football tem.

The Scarborough Secondary team lost 3-1 but they were not totally outclassed by the opposition though they were inactive since the culmination of the Secondary Schools League last year and only recently resumed training for participation in the National FA, so they were not really match fit.

The Olympic team opened the scoring midway in the first half but their lead was shortlived as the speedy striker Christopher Morgan equalised for SSS seven minutes after, with a beauty of a goal.

However, inthe second half because of their inactivity, their condition began to wane and the Olympic team took control to score two more goals and triumph 3-1. While the Olympic team enjoyed more ball possession, SSS were very effective when they were in control.

The Tobago sporting public that has been starved for international entertainment enjoyed a very competitive and exciting match between the National Olympic Under 23 team and the Finnish National team at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, last Wednesday.

The Olympic team walked away one-nil winners, a major confidence-booster for the players that are preparing for a very challenging and crucial CONCACAF Final Round Olympic Qualifier later in the year.

Two of the three Tobagonians in the team Trevin Caesar and Jeromie Williams came on as substitutes, while the third player, a regular for the team, Daneil Cyrus who is recovering from injury was not on the roster.

Williams who campaigns with North East Stars gave a good showing in the time he was on the field while Caesar; a Caledonia AIA player seemed to have experienced some nerves before his home crowd.

Angus Eve, head coach for the team told the Tobago News that he was happy with Williams who plays in the mid-field, work-rate and that he passed the ball well and worked hard defensively.

However, he said while Caesar is a talented player he did not have a good game, possibly because of playing in front of his home crowd in a high-profile game.

Eve added, "He is a very good player who is very quick and has power and can finish with both feet, hence the reason he comes on late in the game, hopefully for him to outrun tiring defenders and score goals."

The team's next engagement should be another friendly against Guyana, very soon and Cyrus is expected to be match-ready and should be on the roster.
