With senior international experience and a brief stint in the American MLS under his belt, Tobago-born defender Daneil Cyrus believes he will add something worthwhile to the Trinidad and Tobago team in the Concacaf Olympic qualifiers.
T&T takes on Mexico at 11.30 pm (T&T time) tomorrow and Cyrus is expected to start with regular left back, Joevin Jones, out through a double yellow card suspension.
“I’m ready for the challenge. I know we are like the underdogs in the competition but I’ve played against these teams at the senior and junior level and once we apply ourselves and we settle down then we can match these three Spanish speaking teams,” Cyrus said.
“We went to two youth World Cups and we showed that we can compete, so we need to break that fear and just play the football.
Sweat and blood and a lot of good pressuring will help us reach out destination,” he said. T&TEC midfielder Jayson Joseph scored in T&T’s opening qualifier against Grenada last month and he’s ready to help T&T move on in the tournament.
“I’ve been waiting for weeks on this opening game and I’m sure my teammates are also anxious. I try to relax before games but I do that by thinking about the matches when I’m in my room,” said Joseph.
“I actually start playing the game in my by head the night before because I’m so anxious to get out there on the pitch and do my thing.
But I need the rest also, so sometimes I try not to over-think the situation. I want to focus enough but make sure I’m also relaxed before I go out there and give my all for the country.”
