He caught the eyes of many with his strong play and passion for the game over in Dominica last week during this country’s 2012 Olympic qualifying matches.

But Kaydion Gabriel is not yet banking on sealing a first team spot for the next round of qualifiers in November.

Gabriel of DirecTV North East Stars was one of the solid performers along with Trevin Caesar in Angus Eve’s team who hadn’t previously played international football.

“It brought me great joy being able to go out there and perform well. Honestly I wasn’t sure I would make the team but the coaches liked what they saw and they gave me the opportunity.  I didn’t look back,” Gabriel said.

“But I wouldn’t say I have already sealed a starting place. I need to prove myself some more. I’ll work harder and try to keep on improving my game. Overall the experience was wonderful. We pulled together as a team and ensured that we moved on to the next round.”

Caesar meantime, notched a vital double to help T&T net the necessary four goals against Dominica.

“I’ve been waiting for this chance. I know once I kept at it that the opportunity would come and once it did, I made sure to bury the chances.

I felt great because the team needed the goals to go through to the next stage. Now we have to keep on working and maintain that focus to keep our qualifying dreams alive” said Caesar who idolizes Fernando Torres and backs Chelsea FC.

T&T will go into the next phase against Cuba, St Kitts/Nevis and the winner of another group to contest for a spot on the CONCACAF Finals next year towards the 2012 Olympics.
