The DIRECTV North East Stars Champion of Champions Invitational football tournament is well under way, with all 6 teams still in the running to progress from the round robin stage to the semi finals.

Zavio's Construction Matura Re United certainly appear to be bringing their goal scoring boots along, having scored 3 goals in each of their matches, while Gorean Highley of Express Utd has scored all 6 of his teams goals, bagging a brace against Valencia and all four against Matura.

Highley was quite rightly voted MVP for Express when they played Valencia, but was equally matched in performance by the Lions' Kendis Garcia who was voted MVP for his two goals in a first half 2 minute spell.

Not surprisingly, last years champions, Matura are currently topping the league with 4 points on goal difference, from the league's tightest team, Guayguayare United who have conceded just one goal in two games and have a game in hand on the leaders.

Highleys six goals for Express have been cancelled out by the same number of goals conceded, while Biche United also have a neutral goal difference after scoring and conceding 5 goals. Valencia are unbeaten after playing just one game, while Providence United are currently propping up the table with just one point from two games and a goal difference of minus 3.

One of the more notable performances came from Guayas goalkeeper, Erskine Johnson who had a fantastic game against Express to protect his teams slender one nil lead and earn his teams MVP award.

The action now moves forward to December 1st at 6pm with Providence taking on Express at Manzanilla, while Valencia Lions face Guayaguayare United in the 8pm fixture.

The competitions organiser and sponsor, Darryl Mahabir, owner of the Japs Fried Chicken Restaurant chain was delighted by the tournament so far.

"This is a fantastic community experience" said Mahabir "It really allows you take a look at the consistency of teams and players in a condensed environment." The North East Stars President added  "There have been some great team and individual performances and players such as Gorean Highley and Kendis Garcia are attracting attention."

Mahabir also paid homage to the competitions co sponsors, DIRECTV. "DIRECTV have really put a huge effort into the North East region and interacted proactively with the community. They are committed to this area and we are grateful for the tremendous support they give to North East Stars and to community events such as this."

Mahabir added that this year, it was hard for him to fully focus on the Champion of Champions as there is so much going on around North East Stars and Japs Fried Chicken. "We are currently launching a Japs promotion with 6 fantastic Frigidaire refrigerators to be won.

The promotion will culminate with us distributing 1,200 toys and goody bags at our restaurants in the week before Christmas. On top of that, we have the Soccer Fete on January 1st right after the Champion of Champions final, and we are really busy promoting the event, which will feature Bunji Garlin, Faye-Anne Lyons, Denise Belfon, Shal Marshall, 3 Suns, Benjai and Sherwayne Winchester.

Then we have new signings coming on board with North East Stars and a massive home game at Larry Gomes stadium on December 13th vs Jabloteh. However, I've still managed to get to see all of the matches, even if I had to answer the phone sometimes!"
