Newly-crowned champion, Siparia Spurs dented the hopes of Penal Rock Road claiming the runner-up spot in the Southern Football Association Petrotrin Super League with a 6-1 thrashing in their top-of-the-table clash on Saturday.

Having already captured its third straight title a week earlier, Spurs were expected to field a weaker line-up. However, the league champion which will now contest the T&T Football Federation Champion of Champions competition with the hope of qualifying for the bmobile National Super League was in no mood to be sympathetic and got two goals each from Len Mejias and Chris Collins in the victory.

Gregor Meriez and D. Wallace added the other while Keston Rivero got Rock Road’s lone item. With the win, Spurs which has a match left to play pushed its tally to 49 points from 19 matches while Penal Rock Road ended its 20-match campaign with 42 points, five ahead of joint third placed teams, OJ Soldado All Stars and La Brea All Stars which had their scheduled clash called off due to no officials on Saturday. For winning the league Spurs got $15,000 while second will collect $10,000.Nigel Simon
