DREAM TEAM kicked off the defence of their Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond League title in style on Saturday with a gutsy 1-0 victory versus Boys Town in the opener at the Fishing Pond Recreation Ground.
In a rematch of last year’s final, the match turned out to be as evenly contested with the Perry Parris-captained team again coming out on top. It was his brother, Patrick, who scored the winner in the fifth minute to decide the contest.
Always a well-organised defensive unit, Boys Town found it hard to break down their opponents who will be favourites to go all the way again.
It was the perfect day for Dream Team who had earlier collected $1,000 and a challenge trophy for winning the march past event.
On Sunday, action continued with an exciting doubleheader.
Newcomers Valencia United showed great determination to battle from a goal down against Cosmos All-Stars to win 2-1. Ricky Pena fired Cosmos in front in the first half but Valencia came storming back in the second period with goals from Kevon Marcus and Shondel Jack turning around the deficit.
In the second match, it was a heated affair with a red card each between Santos and G-Madrid who played to a thrilling 1-1 draw.
Former Fleming FC forward Hakeem Byer, last year’s Golden Boot winner, wasted little time to find his scoring touch, blasting G-Madrid in front in the first half. But Kendell Samuel of Santos would ensure a share of the spoils with a potent finish.
Action continues this weekend with Quash Trace Ball Players taking on Take That and Cool It at 3.45pm on Saturday while Gremio FC meet Coca All-Stars on Sunday at 3.45pm.
