Clint Marcelle Football Academy, Defence Force and Trendsetter Hawks were among those taking the top honours as the 14th edition of the Republic Bank RightStart Cup Youth Football Tournament came to an interesting and entertaining conclusion on Sunday at the Queen's Park Savannah.

In the biggest upset of the day, a thrilling showdown between Under-10 giants SKHY Football Club and Trendsetter Hawks ended with Hawks being the overall division champs, just edging their opponents.

SKHY Under-12 fared better in their bid for championship gold as they beat Stern John Skills Award Programme All Stars (SJSAP) in the final.

Under-15 and Under-17 action was equally entertaining as Clint Marcelle Football Academy trumped crowd favourites Jabloteh, while Defence Force got the better of Best Warriors 2000.

Not to be outdone by all the Boys' action, the Under-17 Girls category was well represented by teams like Trincity Nationals, Petrotrin F.C., St. Clair Coaching School and Champion Girls.

When the proverbial dust had settled, Trincity Nationals had risen to the top with an impressive unbeaten record.

In the Special Olympics category, returning champions, the National Centre for People with Disabilities (NCPD) successfully defended their title..

Over 500 junior footballers took part in the tournament this year.

And in his opening remarks Sunday, General Manager, Commercial and Retail Banking, Derwin Howell told the successful teams: "You are now one step closer to getting all the respect that a championship team deserves. And this is the prize that we, at Republic Bank, want you to always keep your eyes on.

"This is the prize that we offer most to you, with our RightStart Cup, because we want you to get a good taste of success and the respect that comes with it. What is more, is that we want you to remain hungry for that success and respect."

Teams from around the country competed for over $50,000 in prizes, as well as 120 scholarships valued at $200,000 to the Bank's Annual RightStart Cup Youth Football Camp.
