Mayaro Spurs have taken a clear lead in the Senior Division of the 2009 bpTT Mayaro Football League competition, posting their seventh consecutive victory with a 6-1 drubbing of Valencia last Friday.
Sparked by a beaver-trick from in-form striker Carlon Hughes, former champions Spurs have opened up a five-point gap at the top of the league standings. They have 21 points from seven wins and a solitary loss which came in their first match of the season.
Contributing to the scoreline in Spurs' latest triumph were Sharlon Hughes and Kyle James, while Dillon Thomas netted the lone item for Valencia who sit in mid-table with 10 points from eight matches.
The only other game in the league to be decided last week was the scheduled clash between Ozone and Newlands, with Ozone awarded a win (and three goals) by default.
Mayguaya United and Mayaro Boys are locked in a tie with 16 points each from seven matches, with both teams having identical results of five wins, one loss and one draw. Mayguaya lead on superior goal difference.
Mafeking United, Illusion SC and Rio Claro United all have 15 points, with Mafeking and Rio Claro having played eight matches, while Illusion have played six.

In their first outing, they thumped Mayaro Spurs 6-0 with goals coming from Kerdell Alfred (2), Kheelon Mitchell (2), Shaquille Ferrier and Kellon Alexander.
Mayguaya then inflicted a 12-0 thrashing of Super Stars on Saturday, thanks to a hat-trick from Jade Cooper, braces from Keyion Thomas and Kheelon Alexander, and single strikes from Kerdell Alfred, Mark Licourish, Rondel McIntosh, Marcus Sylvan and Shawn Matthews.
