Global Encounter Ministries (GEMS) is the winner of the Premier Division of the Churches Football League, which came to a close last week with the final round of matches.
GEMS played the entire season unbeaten and, in fact, only dropped two points when Bethel was able to hold it to a 3-3 draw in the fifth week of competition.
GEMS had by far the best defence, conceding only seven goals for the entire season while scoring 32. It finished five points clear of its nearest rivals inspite of having played three games less, including its match against cellar-placed Woodbrook which was not played on Saturday as scheduled.
Daybreak, which started a bit slowly with only three points from its first four games, snatched three points from its final game to finish second in the competition.
On Saturday Daybreak defeated seventh-placed Philadelphia 4-1 margin with two goals coming from Jameel Phillip (two) and Elijah Roberts and Garvin Osborne (one each). Carios Dillancy scored the consolation for Philadelphia.
Genesis was also a slow starter, earning just one point from its first three games, but it stormed back to finish third with the same number of points as Bethel but with a superior goal difference.
A similar drama played out in the First Division, with Reformation Life Centre (RLC) taking the trophy, having played unbeaten for the season and dropping only two points when they drew 2-2 with second placed West End Pentecostal less than a month ago.
