Maracas United rallied from a goal down in as early as the second minute to defeat Cosmos United 2-1 and capture the Over-40 division league and ’Big Four’ titles at Arima Velodrome last Friday evening.

A large crowd turned up to witness the feature match of the double-header staged by the Arima Football League.

Fans had not yet settled down before Marlon Blake gave Cosmos the early advantage. There ensued a ding-dong tussle as Maracas sought the equaliser while Cosmos strove to extend their slim lead.

However, it was Maracas who drew level before the interval, thanks to John Castillo.

In the second half, the intensity lowered despite the vociferous urgings of the supporters of both teams.

Just when spectators were preparing to witness deciding kicks from the penalty spot, Felix Daniel broke the deadlock by outwitting his marker and breaching the Cosmos defence. It was also the signal to spark celebrations among those from the valley.

In the preceding play-off match for third place, Ansil Elcock and Kerry Jamerson each notched a goal to see Friends International prevail 2-1 over Temple United, for whom Billy Burns could respond only once. Knock-out action will continue at the same venue this evening at 6 p.m. when league champions Maracas United will face 500 Touring Team, while Fish Alone will clash with Memphis FC two hours later.
