Players Club were crowned champions of the Diego Martin Regional Corporation Community League “Big Four” competition despite losing its final match, 5-1 to Scorpion at the Haig Street Recreation Ground, Carenage on Sunday.

Going into the match, Players which had won its first five matches to claim the $7,000, trophy and gold medals already fielded an understrength line-up and Scorpion took full advantage with a lop-sided win.

Despite the loss, Players ended with 15 points, four ahead of Scorpion which collected $2,000, a trophy and silver medals.

Third placed finishers, 13 Posse clobbered Ford United 5-2 to end with seven points on Saturday and walked away with the $1,000 cheque in the tournament organised by ex-national player and Carenage-resident Angus Eve.

Tyronne Charles of Scorpion copped the Most Goals award while Pierce Ryan of Players Club was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

The tournament win for Players was their second of the season having captured the $10,000 league prize from ten teams. Scorpion again had to settle for second spot and $3,000 while Ford United got $1,500 for third.

Scorpion won the knockout competition and the $3,000 winner cheque while Defence Force was second got $1,000. Among the other sponsors are Purnella’s Restaurant, Jerry Kon Singh Hardware, Ford’s Bar and House Mini-Mart.
