Predators FC, champions of the Five Rivers Knockout Tournament, received their $12,000 cheque on Saturday at the Prize-Giving ceremony and also walked away with a number of individual accolades.
The Cunupia-based team defeated Pacemakers in the final 3-2 with striker Stevon Stoute scoring a brace and defender Jeremy Harewood adding the other.

The league, which ran from May to August attracted a number of top teams from the East-West corridor but it was the team from central that took the honours.

Stoute was named the “Most Valuable Player” while Predators team-mate Anthony Noel bagging the Most Goals award.

Prizes were also distributed for the winners of the Under-23 and Under-13 competitions.

Celebrations were kept to a minimum by the Predators team, however, as they prepare for their final match of the Central Zone Football League against Leeds United on Saturday at their home ground.

Predators are currently third in the standings with 31 points while Leeds are in second with 32. UTT, recently demoted from the Super League, holds the pole position with 34 pts but have played all their matches leaving it open for the winner of the Leeds versus Predators match to snatch the crown in their final match.

Leeds will be favourites for the win and the title having represented the Zone at the Champion of Champions last year and beating Predators 3-1 in their previous meeting.

Predators coach Michael De Four and manager Navin Charles, revealed yesterday that his team is not only seeking revenge for their earlier defeat but is motivated that a win would hand them the crown.

Goal difference will play a part in the final tabulations so Predators will be pressed to not only win but do so by a handsome margin.

“The players want to bring home the league cup. I feel we can pull it off if we take our chances early,” De Four said.

“We started the league losing our first three matches but in the second round we have only lost one game and conceded just three goals,” he said.

He dismissed the notion that their 3-1 defeat would have any effect on the players psyche as their top marksman Anthony Noel had got injured in the game but is now fit and raring to go.

Saturday’s match will kick-off at about 3.45 pm at the Esmeralda Recreation Grounds and promises to be a cracker with the spoils awaiting the team to emerge victorious.
