Former player/coach of the Malvern Football Club, Robbie Greenidge, was honoured at a ceremony last Thursday at the Lions Cultural Centre.
The occasion also honoured members of the Henry’s Physical Association who gave meritorious service to the association over the years. The Henry’s Physical Association was the brainchild of former national footballer/coach/administrator Ken Henry - the pioneer organisation for keep-fit in T&T.
Henry who gave the feature address, described Greenidge as an outstanding football player for Malvern in the late 1940s to 1950s and someone who gave yeoman service as an inspiring coach to Malvern from the late 1950s to 1980s. He noted that Greenidge also pioneered coaching for women’s football in T&T.
He also emphasised that though Greenidge was uncertified, he possessed all the characteristics of a professional coach. Tributes were also paid to Greenidge by former Malvern players Tim Lamkin and Clive Niles. Other distinguished Malvern players who were present included Michael Saldenha, Ulric Boxhill, Boysie Ramdath, Ian Harris, Garnet Harris, Rolph Clarke, Selris Figaro, Edwin Breedy and Lawrence DeNobreiga.
