Josh Toussaint fired in a first-half double to lead M&M Harvard to a 2-1 win over Phoenix and with it the Under-14 Division title in the National Youth League on Saturday.
Going into the match, Harvard needed only a point to sneak ahead of Club Sando for the crown, while Phoenix needed a victory to stay alive.
However, Toussaint quickly cooled the nerves of his team-mates when he scored as early as the first minute before he doubled the lead in the 17th minute.
On the resumption, Phoenix took the match to Harvard and cut the lead in the 51st, but the St James-based club held on to capture the title.
Harvard ended with 19 points, three ahead of Club Sando (see standings). In the Under-16 age-group, Phoenix dashed Moruga’s hopes of a final berth with a 3-1 whipping on Tuesday.
Moruga needed to beat Phoenix to overtake Queen’s Park for second spot in the group.
