Untouchables are the 2011 Guinness Street Football Challenge champions.
The Jonestown-based team, winners of the East Zone of the competition, defeated Central champs Foundation in sudden death penalty kicks to clinch the title and $30,000 first prize on Sunday evening at Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo.
Foundation took home silver medals and the $20,000 second prize.
"It's an indescribable feeling you know, we feel wonderful. We came out with a game plan to keep it tight at the back and to just play our natural passing game and we were able to pull it off today," said Untouchables skipper Mike Marcano following the win.
Marcano's team looked a class above the competition when the six zonal winners from the North West--Yellow Birds, North East--Real Madrid, East--Untouchables, South--Showtime, Central--Foundation and Tobago--Pirates Boat Yard met in a round-robin competition to decide the two finalists in front of a large crowd at the Wrightson Road facility.
Untouchables striker Shane Hospedales led all scorers, combining with skipper Marcano to breech defences all day long.
"We been playing together for a long time so we have a pretty good understanding, so I had no doubt he would do the job for us today," said Marcano of his prolific front man.
Trinidad and Tobago and Stoke City striker and Guinness tournament ambassador Kenwyne Jones was on hand to greet the teams and present winners medals, trophies and cheques.
The 6' 2" striker brought out the tricks with a few back heels and lobs during a head to head penalty shootout with supporters for Guinness prizes.
"It's good what Guinness is doing for football to give these guys a chance to come out and play and represent their communities and I'm happy to be a part of it," said Jones about the five-a-side small goal competition.
Soca Warriors teammates Brent Sancho, Stern John, Anthony Wolfe and Cornell Glen also took in the action from the sidelines before taking the field to treat the crowd to an exhibition game.
It was a delight to see John "holding last" in a small goal kick about.
"I hope somebody was here to take photos of us playing small goal, but no, it was fun," John joked following the game.
The Makamillion family, featuring Orlando Octave, brought the curtain down on the football showcase with performances of their soca and reggae hits.
