THE FIFTH annual Arima Football League kicks off tomorrow with a double header at the Arima Velodrome.
Maloney will do battle with Semi Pro in the opener at 6pm while Malabar FC, Borough Knockout champions, will take on Pamphilla Knockout winners Beatnix FC two hours later.
The league features16 teams with two group of eight played in a round robin format with the top two in each group advancing to the “Big 4”.
Group I includes Maloney, Semi Pro, Arima Ball Masters, Peyton Ville, Creek, Printery Ville, Samaroo Village and Malabar Super Stars. Group II consists of Malabar FC, Beatnix FC, Mausica, Maturita FC, Inter Dynamos, La Florissante , Valencia and Pinto.
Claudius Bobb, one of the organisers of the Arima Football League, said the tournament has been progressing nicely since its inception.
He explained that sponsorship for the league has been hard to come by but they have still found a way to provide acceptable cash prizes for the teams.
The winner will take home $3,000 while the second place team receives $2,000. The third-place team will be awarded $1,000. The entry fee is $5 for spectators and Bobb explained that organisers want to maintain the community atmosphere the league has created over the years.
“We always have a good turnout and a good community atmosphere,” he added.
