The 2011 season of the bpTT Mayaro Football League kicked off last week with T&T Pro League team Police defeating a Mayaro All-Star XI 3-1 in an exciting exhibition match at Mayaro Recreation Ground.
The first half ended goalless, with Police dominating play but squandering the best scoring chances.
However, the Mayaro representative team, understandably rusty at the beginning of their season, soon got into their stride and created chances of their own.
Mayaro All-Stars stepped up their game after the interval and took a 1-0 lead through star striker Carlon "Bound-to-Score" Hughes, who beat the Police custodian with a thunderbolt four minutes into the half.
Police equalised in the 75th minute with a penalty by Christopher Sam, who scored again four minutes later to send his team into a 2-1 lead. Kerron Foster then netted a third goal for the Lawmen in time added on.
Mohammed Isa, technical director of Police, said although the match was an exhibition fixture, it was hard-fought, with the Mayaro team putting up a good showing although they were at the start of their season.
