Sterling O’Brien led from the front with a brace as Back Street blasted Northern Area Sports Club 5-0 in their Santa Cruz Football Organisation’s Monteco Cup knockout quarterfinal at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground, Sam Boucaud, Upper Santa Cruz on Sunday.
In addition to O’Brien, the team captain, Aklie Edwards, Anton “Chatty” Joseph and Kerry “Red-0” Frederick chipped in with a goal each to set up a semifinal meeting with San Juan/San Juan at the same venue from 4.15 pm today.
San Juan/San Juan, were also comfortable winner of its quarterfinal, 3-0 over River Plate on Saturday in their replay after last week’s meeting ended in a 2-2 draw.
Richard “Shaka” Roy got a double for San Juan/San Juan and Jamal George, the other. In yesterday’s first knockout semifinal, Police and Dathea faced off in a repeat of their League semifinal which the Lawmen won, 4-2.
On Saturday, Dathea paced by a double from Kendall Gillard and an own-goal via Theo Lewis blanked Pipiol 3-0 while Police edged Fire Service 2-1 last week with goals from Christopher Samuel and Kevin Titre.
The knockout semifinal winners’ will face off in the $3,000 winner-take-all decider on Thursday from 4.15 pm. Meanwhile, Police and Back Street will clash in the League on Sunday from 4.15 pm.
This match will be preceded by the third place meeting between Dathea and Pipiol two hours earlier. At stake in the League Cup final is the $10,000 winner chequewhile second gets $5,000, third $2,500 and fourth, $1,500.
