Nine-man Bmobile Joe Public was most fortunate in securing a point to lift it clear at the top of the bmobile National Super League after the team played to a 0-0 draw with Club Sando, at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, yesterday.
Joe Public, the 2011 treble winner, pulled away Westside Superstarz, which has been at the helm of the table for most of the season, despite again having its match against Real Maracas postponed.
Westside and Real Maracas were scheduled to play at St Anthony’s College Ground, Westmoorings, but the head referee cancelled the affair as he deemed the condition of the pitch unplayable.
Joe Public, meanwhile, was at home and desperate to build on its 3-1 win over Eagles United a week later, but faltered with the dismissal of two players against Club Sando.
It showed, however, that Joe Public could remain composed in defence, despite allowing the ball into their net once, which the referee ruled offside.
The “Eastern Lions” went down to ten players with less than 20 minutes spent. Dominic Hutchinson, a regular starting fullback for Joe Public was dismissed in the 19th minute for a stamp on Club Sando’s Keston Foster, after the two players collided in a challenge.
The second dismissal came just on the hour mark when Ishmael Daniel, a former Caledonia AIA defender, chopped down Sando’s Jason Boodram in dangerous fashion, giving the official another straightforward decision to make. In order to secure a positive result from the match, Joe Public remained in defensive mode, allowing little opportunity for a Club Sando winner, which it did successfully.
In other matches, Eagles United, pulled off another suprise result with a 1-0 away win over 1976 FC Phoenix, at Canaan, Bon Accord.
Eagles leapt over Sunday’s opponent, and into fifth place as a result. Defence Force and Biche United, the two bottom teams in the standings played to a 1-1 draw. Kerin Vincent scored in the 43rd minute to give Biche a half-time lead, before Dexter Thornhill responded in the 58th minute for Defence Force from a curling free-kick effort.
Defence Force had numerous chances to win the match if not for poor finishing from its attackers, combined with another heroic match from Biche goalkeeper Aaron Ali, who continued to impress. Last season runner-up Stokely Vale and third-from-bottom Siparia Spurs drew 2-2.
