Former national forward Andre Toussaint scored a first half double to keep defending champion bmobile Joe Public alive in the blink/bmobile National Super League competition on Wednesday with a 2-0 victory over 1976 FC Phoenix at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.
It was the final round of rescheduled matches with saw Joe Public go just two points behind leader WASA FC, with one round of matches remaining in the 12-club, second tier competition.
With all teams on an equal number of matches played, a champion will be determined on Sunday, with three teams in the running.
WASA FC will be assured of the crown for the first time since 2007 with a victory.
The “Waterboys” face eighth-placed and unpredictable FC Santa Rosa at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, from 3.30 pm, the same time of kick off for all matches on the day.
A win will hand WASA the title, while a draw can see Joe Public, which is superior on goal difference, take the trophy, if it claims a win over already relegated Club Sando, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.
Westside, which held the lead in the competition for large portions of the season can take the title if WASA loses and Joe Public either draws or loses. Westside will face a very tricky test on the road when it travels to St Joseph to face Real Maracas.
While a champion is yet to be determined, the three relegated clubs were already decided last Sunday. Eagles United, Club Sando and Biche United will all head back into their respective associations for third tier football next season.
