FC Santa Rosa and captain, Keron Clarke, has been invited by Senior Men's National Team (SMNT) head coach, Dennis Lawrence, to train with the team ahead of its friendly match against Ecuador in Guayaquil on 26 July. FC Santa Rosa received the TTFA's official letter of invitation this morning.
Lawrence was in attendance on 2 July at the Velodrome when Santa Rosa dismantled Club Sando 7:0, led by a Clarke hat-trick. The national coach took another look at Clarke on 9 July as the Big Cannons whipped WASA FC, with the Santa Rosa hit man obligingly hitting a double. Clarke scored seventeen goals for Santa Rosa in 2016 and has already bagged seven in the Big Cannons' four 2017 TT Super League matches.
The invitation to Clarke is an historic development as Super League players have previously been ignored in the selection of the Trinidad and Tobago SMNT. FC Santa Rosa has long championed the quality of Super League players, and the club congratulates Dennis Lawrence for his openness and bravery in making this call. Santa Rosa looks forward to more TTSL players being given the opportunity to train with, and to be selected to the SMNT.
The national team travels to Guayaquil on 24 July and returns on 27 July.
