Defending champions FC Santa Rosa lost their first game of the 2017 Trinidad and Tobago Super League (TTSL) One competition yesterday as they fell 2-0 to Defence Force FC at the Arima Velodrome.

Santa Rosa were without their captain and leading scorer Keron Clarke, who travels to Ecuador this evening with the Trinidad and Tobago National Senior Team, and could find no answer for the Army/Coast Guard combination, which got two first half goals from Jamaal Goodridge and Josimar Belgrave.

The result saw Defence Force leapfrog Santa Rosa to second place, although the latter team has a game in hand against QPCC.

QPCC are in fifth place at present and gave another glimpse of their steely resolve with a goalless draw against leaders Guaya United on Sunday. It was the first time that Guaya were denied three points after six rounds of the 2017 season.

Elsewhere in TTSL Two, Prisons FC moved ahead of Central 500 Spartans on goal difference after Saturday’s round of matches.

Prisons, led by an opener from former Club Sando midfielder Anthony Parris, whipped Harlem Strikers 3-0, which pulled them level on points with Spartans although the latter team has an inferior goal difference. Spartans were held 4-4 by Youth Stars for their third draw of the season.

Twice, Spartans came from behind and thought they had done enough for the winner after Donovan Derrick completed his hattrick in the 75th minute, only for ex-Club Sando striker Kevon “Showtime” Woodley to snatch a late equaliser with his hattrick goal which came from the penalty spot in the 84th minute.
