Andell Noray netted a hat-trick as 1976 Phoenix FC earned a shock 5-3 win over Guaya United on Thursday, in a rescheduled Round 21 League One match of the Trinidad and Tobago Super League.
The result saw Phoenix move up to fourth spot, while Guaya remain in second place with 49 points, one behind FC Santa Rosa.
The final round of matches are due to take place tomorrow (SUNDAY), and it will surely be a neck-and-neck battle between the top two to determine the inaugural League One winners of the TT Super League.
Tomorrow, Santa Rosa will be squaring off against the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima from 3.30 pm and, simultaneously, Guaya United will be hosting Defence Force at the Guayaguayare Recreation Ground.
At the Canaan/Bon Accord Recreation Ground on Thursday, Jody Allsop found the back of the net in the fifth minute but the hosts responded with three goals within the space of 19 minutes, from Noray (seventh and 24th) and Shelton Williams (26th).
The prolific Carlon Hughes reduced the deficit to 3-2 with an item in the 52nd before Dominic Kerr scored Phoenix’s fourth in the 72nd.
Noray completed his treble in the 74th and Phoenix were not going to be denied full points, despite Hughes’ second goal, in the 79th.
