JOE PUBLIC, the "Eastern Lions", moved closer to retaining their Sportworld Super League crown following a 5-1 thrashing of Maraval Youth Academy at the Trinity College Grounds, Moka, Maraval yesterday.

With second-placed Crab Connection five points adrift, the "Eastern Lions" need only a point from their final match to claim back-to-back crowns.

Maraval, who lie 11th on the 12-team standings, gained a shock lead courtesy Clinton Corbin in the 25th minute.

But Joe Public equalised in the 44th via Wolry Wolfe, while Carlington Smith put the "Lions" ahead in the 63rd. Roen Nelson pushed Joe Public’s lead to 3-1 in the 71st, while Smith completed his hat-trick with strikes in the 86th and 90th.

The other game yesterday followed a similar pattern with the winner needing to come from behind to gain full points.

At the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna, Damien Pompey put M&M Harvard in front against Stokely Vale in the 33rd but Kayode Legall levelled the scores in the 65th.

Jemon Quashie found the back of the net in the 68 th and Trevonne James sealed the win for the Tobago-based outfit in the 87th.
