There will be a three-way battle for the two places up for grabs in next season’s National Super Football League. When the penultimate round of matches were played on Sunday, Southern Football Association’s champion team T&TEC turned back Leeds, the Central Football Association winner, 3-1 at Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya.
T&TEC took the lead on the stroke of halftime through Timothy John only for Elliot James to equalise for Leeds in the 66th-minute. The confidence of Leeds was dashed seven minutes later when Brent Garcia scored to regain the lead for T&TEC.

Whatever chance of Leeds playing itself back into the game was halted in the 90th minute by Brendon de Leon, who rounded off the scoring for the southerners. East/West Coaching School, of the Eastern Football Association, stayed on course to set up a grand-stand finish by holding on to a 2-1 win over Tobago’s Georgia United away on the River Bank Oval ground in Mt St George. All the goals came in the first half with Michael Alexis and Handell Manswell sending East/West into an early 2-0 advantage with back-to-back goals (eighth and ninth minutes). Keron Phillips, the leading scorer for Georgia, pulled a goal back for the home team in the 40th minute but his team was unable to find the net again in the second session.

Queen’s Park of the Northern Football Association scored a consolation 1-0 win over Biche United in the other match at Marvin Lee Stadium. Richard Canberra scored the only goal of the match in the 26th minute. Georgia must beat T&TEC on Thursday to keep its chances alive. The match will be played on the Palo Seco Recreation ground. East/West, the other team in contention, will be at home to Queen’s Park at Marvin Lee Stadium. After four rounds in the competition, T&TEC and East/West are locked on eight points with Georgia lurking a point behind. The other three teams, Queen’s Park, Leeds and Biche have no chance of qualifying. Three teams will be demoted back to it respective zones next season. The trio are Crab Connection, Harvard and University of T&T.
