League leaders Joe Public, led by a double from Dorion Robinson, rebounded from their first defeat at the hands of Phoenix FC on Wednesday, to claim their eighth win, as play in the bmobile National Super League continued yesterday.
While it was not as convincing as they would have liked, Public claimed a come-from-behind 2–1 win over Carenage United at Youth Camp, Chaguaramas.
After a goalless first half, Carenage broke the deadlock in the 55th minute from a Fergus Thomas strike. The “Eastern Lions” would find their first item in the 77th minute, as Robinson netted the first of his double, to level the score.
He would then close off things a minute from regulation time, with his second goal, to give his team the 2–1 win. The result has now pushed the Macoya-based team to 25 points from their nine matches, some six ahead of Phoenix FC who are in second place. Phoenix who cut the lead on the leaders, after defeating them, could only muster a point from their clash with M&M Harvard as the teams played to a 1–1 draw.
Play in Caanan, Bon Accord, Tobago, Phoenix took the lead in the 87th minute from Dominique Kerr, after the first half ended 0–0. Harvard, however, got a lifeline in extra time as one of their players was fouled in the box, causing the referee to award a penalty. The kick was taken by Christon Freitas, who made no mistake in scoring to give his team the draw.
Meanwhile East West Coaching School registered their first win in eight matches, after getting by St Francois Nationals 1–0, at the Queen’s Park Oval. The East West team, which is in its first Pro League, got their goal from a Adrian Nunez strike in the 75th minute. They have now moved from the bottom of the table to third-to-last on five points.
