Kerdel Chairman’s first half double was sufficient in sealing Santa Rosa’s place in the final with a 2-1 win over 1976 FC Phoenix in the Under-17 division of the National Youth League, yesterday.

The match, which was the second of two U-17 semifinals on the day, was played at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.

After Chairman’s double, Phoenix tried but were unable to get back into the match until late on in the 79th minute when Kleon Melville gave the Tobago club some hope. It was not to be for Phoenix, however, as the team left it too late to find another goal and were booted out in the last hurdle.

The match followed the earlier encounter between Club Sando and Joe Public Football Club in which both teams were vying for the first final spot.

Keron Brooks scored in the 40th minute, giving Club Sando a 1-0 advantage just before half time. Club Sando then came out in charge for the second half and found another item just a minute into the second half with a goal from Jeremy Gordon.

Joe Public was kept at bay until the 76th minute when Israel Honore sparked a comeback, but much like Phoenix, Public left it too late and were unable to find the final effort.

The final of the U-17 fixtures between Santa Rosa and Club Sando will take place in a venue and date yet to be determined. The third place playoff between 1976 FC Phoenix and Joe Public will likely be played at the same venue as the final on the same day.
