Otto PfisterTHE TRINIDAD and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) has not yet deliberated on whether to renew the contract of national coach Otto Pfister.

The German failed to guide this country past the second round of qualification for the FIFA 2014 World Cup as TT embarrassingly crashed out to neighbours Guyana.

The “Soca Warriors” finished second in Group ‘B’ with 12 points from six matches including losses to lowly Bermuda (1-2) and Guyana (1-2).

At a press conference on November 17, TTFF Acting president Lennox Watson revealed that Pfister’s contract would come to an end this month.

The former Togo boss is currently on leave until December 31.

The TTFF head also revealed that the coach’s tenure will be reviewed and a decision made on whether to continue with him.

But speaking to Newsday yesterday, Watson said that his organisation has not met concerning the matter.

“We have not (come to a decision),” Watson said.

He was also reluctant to say when the German would know his fate.

Pfister played just one practice match against India before kicking-off the World Cup campaign against Bermuda at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Watson had pointed out that this was one of the problems Pfister faced and added yesterday that the referee strike locally also hindered him.

“Football started late...and when we started a number of players were sent on trials,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the TTFF head said that no meeting has been held with regards the introduction of a National League.

At that November 17 press conference, Watson revealed to the media that one of his dreams was to see a National League in this country with promotion and demotion.

He had explained that discussions would have to be held with the administrators of the Pro League and Super League but none have taken place so far.

“Nothing held (as yet),” he said, “you have to understand that I have been pursuing this for a long time. Look at TTEC who left the Super League and are doing pretty well in the Pro League,” he pointed out.

Since losing to Guyana, the national team has been inactive but will be back in action in just over a month.

The “Warriors” will look to put aside the disappointment of their early exit on the Road to Brazil 2014 with victory in a friendly match against Finland on January 22.

Watson promised that this country would play at least seven international matches per year along with participation in regional competitions as he seeks to revive local football.

Assistant coach, Anton Corneal is currently in charge of the “Soca Warriors”.
