Lester Peltier After missing three first half scoring chances that probably would have  put T&T in a better chance of achieving a positive result against Canada last Wednesday, European-based forward Lester Peltier says he is considering staying away from international football for the rest of the year.

But it’s not due to a lack of success.  Instead, Peltier, reportedly carrying the highest transfer fee in the Slovakian top flight after moving to champion club Slovan Bratislava earlier this year from AS Trencin, wants to focus more on his career with the club. He is insisting that he is not turning his back on his country.

“I think maybe I need to stay away from the national team until the programme is really in a better position, when we have much more important games and things are fully on stream,” Peltier said.

“I don’t think we have any serious games for the rest of the year. Obviously the Caribbean Cup is important but I don’t think the coaches will be calling back the European-based players and maybe it’s a good chance for some of the local guys to get some international experience.

“I love playing for the national team but the traveling back and forth could be a bit difficult and it was hard having to travel to Fort Lauderdale and then get back to my club for an important game on the weekend,” Peltier added.
