Foncette waits for his chance in goal

Jan-Michael Williams has been Trinidad and Tobago's first call goalkeeper since 2007, while equally talented Marvin Phillip is the regular second call, but has had stints at number one.

Adrian Foncette is a newcomer, but at five years younger than both, he may well be the future.

Foncette, 26, lives at La Horquetta, Arima, and plays for Police FC in the local Digicel Pro League.

He returned to Trinidad and Tobago after four years at the University of Albany, and played for North East Stars for a year before moving to Police.

Foncette has also recovered from an almost career-ending arm injury.

Son of former Police keeper Glen Foncette, the former Fatima College goalie was with both the National Under 20 and Under-23 teams when a van broke the major road and slammed into the taxi he was in.

After serious rehabilitation, he recovered enough to take up a U.S scholarship.

It is just the second time Foncette has been called up by head coach Stephen Hart and his first CONCACAF Gold Cup with Trinidad and Tobago.

“It's just an honour to be here in a big tournament like the Gold Cup, “Foncette said. “If ever I am called upon I am ready to perform.”

“Marvin and Jan are two seasoned goalkeepers. I look up to them,” he said.

“But, if ever called into action, I am always prepared and ready.”
