National midfielder Aurtis Whitley has created history by becoming the first locally based professional to sign an endorsement contract.
The San Juan Jabloteh player has signed with ‘The Athlete’s Foot’ a top local franchise holder for genuine footwear and sport brands.
The deal will run for twelve(12) months and according to ‘The Athlete’s Foot’ representative Clint Williams his company wants to play its part in Trinidad and Tobago’s chances at the 2006 World Cup Finals in Germany.
“We have taken it upon ourselves to sponsor Aurtis Whitley, as we recognize him to be a player with enormous capacity and ability and we feel by supporting him financially, it will help him focus on what he needs to do to perform to his best at the World Cup and we look forward to Whitley becoming the face of our company.”
The contract will see Aurtis being remunerated over the twelve(12) month period and he will also receive some attractive incentives.
‘The Athlete’s Foot’ is one of the leading suppliers of genuine sporting footwear and equipment worldwide and has two branches locally, one in West Mall and the other in Price Plaza.
Whitley was excited about the latest development in his career, saying he was very pleased to be chosen by the athlete’s foot to be their representative.
CEO of the T&T Pro League Dexter Skeene believes this is a big boost not only for San Juan Jabloteh, but the entire League—Skeene says, “I want to congratulate Aurtis, he is a player that has worked hard and he has proven he can compete at the international level and he continues to make the League and by extension the Country proud.”
“The League itself is making strides and we maintain our position, that local footballers must be given an opportunity to make a living from their god given talents,” said Skeene.
He concluded, “As a League we are growing and I believe we heading in the right direction—our focus is to create ‘local stars’ and Aurtis a fine example.
