STERN JOHN is ready for the world stage where he is aiming to dent England's progress in Germany this summer.

The Coventry City striker is in a rich vein of form with the Sky Blues which he hopes to take into the World Cup with Trinidad and Tobago.

"I am enjoying my football now and hopefully I can take this into the World Cup and put Trinidad on the map," said the 29-year-old forward who notched his fourth goal in five games on Monday to take his season's tally to ten.

And John's team-mates believe he could cause Sven-Goran Eriksson's men problems, along with fellow Group B teams Paraguay and Sweden.

"Stern's finish against Leicester was top drawer and since he has been back from Derby he has been like a breath of fresh air," said Richard Shaw.

"When he went out on loan people thought his Coventry career was over but we all knew what a good player he is and since then he has been different class.

"I know he has got the World Cup to go to and he needs to keep fit for that and work hard, but I certainly feel he will give teams a problem in Germany if he carries on in current form.

"He was unlucky not to get a second goal against Leicester when the guy kicked it off the line. It was a great bit of skill but I am glad he got the one goal at least because he thoroughly deserved it."

And John is determined to continue grabbing goals in the last two games of the season when City travel to Stoke this weekend and entertain Cardiff on the last day of the Championship.

"It doesn't matter if we go a goal down at home because we always expect to score at the Ricoh where we are really strong," he said.

"We got ourselves back into the game against Leicester and it was just disappointing that we didn't go on to win it.

"We are still in a good position and still want to finish in the top ten which would be great for Coventry because we haven't done that for a few years now."
