National head coach Leo Beenhakker has said that he will make no changes two his original 24-man World Cup squad going into the friendly international against Peru at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on May 10.
There had been speculation following the recent two-match series with Grenada about whether the Dutchman would be tempted to make any additions but he made it clear that he has no such intentions .
“No there is no reason to change the squad. There will be no changes because that game against Peru is in relation to the 24-man squad that has been selected, “ Beenhakker said.
Adding that he was pleased with the showing against the Grenadians, Beenhakker did add that he was not entirely happy with the fitness level of the nine-World Cup squad players who played this week.
“It was a satisfactory exercise. We had two wins and I saw some things and the players were able to get in some time on the field so in that way I was happy. I will not say I am happy with the fitness level but at the same time we have sufficient time to get the team ready during the time that we are together before the World Cup. If I think there is any reason to make a change to add a player before the World Cup then I would do that but the squad remains the same at the moment,” Beenhakker said.
The former Saudi Arabia coach said he expected the full preparations to take stride from the start of the training camp in Manchester on May 14.
“I don’t expect there will be too much pressure with the Peru game because of course there will be all sorts of activities with the farewell for the boys but of course everything I expect will start from the time we get to Manchester.”
He added though that he will still take the game against Peru in relation to the preparations for the World Cup.
