Carlton “Putty” Lewis one of T&T’s best football wingers, died at the Methodist Hospital in New York on Sunday night, aged 78.

Lewis was a dashing,cool right winger who became famous along with his Malvern Club and the forward line which demolished rivals in the early 1950s.

The Glamour Boys, as the Woodbrook based Malvern became wildly known because of the panash of the players, produced the forward line for North against South, from right: Carlton “Putty” Lewis, Carlton “Squeakie” Hinds, Fedo Blake, Phil Douglin and Lio Lynch.

He was a national player who was in the T&T which toured England in 1953 and figured in the scoresheet many times.Lewis migrated to the United States more than 40 years ago.

Lewis wife pre-deceased him 15 years ago. They had four children, Carlton jr, Keith, Carla, Karen, all surviving.

 

The funeral will be held in New York on Friday, said his son Carlton jr.
