TSTT announced their continued support of the “Soca Warriors” currently in the final round of qualifiers for FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
At a press briefing at the Kapok Hotel, Maraval, yesterday, the company’s executive vice-president mobile services Anthony Joseph announced that they had signed a two-year deal with the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) but gave no money value.

The sponsorship he said was substantial and entailed Blackberry and regular mobile phones for players throughout the two-year period.

The players will also be given ‘‘air time’’ which would allow them to be reached wherever they may be in the world.

According to Joseph “As a sponsor it’s not enough to simply step into the picture when success is being experienced. We believe we must play a part in accomplishing that success, and it starts with supporting football at a much earlier stage.” Joseph also said that TSTT look forward to a very exciting programme of activities that they will be building around the Soca Warriors qualifying campaign.” He claimed also that he sees the sponsorship of the Soca Warriors qualifying campaign as an investment in the sport and in the nation’s youth.

TSTT was among the first sponsors to jump on board the last World Cup qualifying campaign and according to Joseph, they have bettered the amount which they gave last time around.

It was because of TSTT’s funding that the team was able to bring back inspirational midfielder Russell Latapy as assistant coach.

Jack Warner, Special Advisor to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) welcomed the sponsorship and declared that he would not disclose the money value of the deal even if he was asked. He thanked TSTT for being a friend of football and pointed out that they are the only sponsors to come on board to date.

He made it clear that without them, the TTFF would not be able to have Russell Latapy come back as assistant national coach from January 23rd, or to have the Soca Warriors have two overseas camps in mid-year.

“When you are on top you hardly need friends. But, when you are down, you know who your friends are,” Warner said.
