Coach Bertille St Clair, it seems, has not given up on having the services of Dwight Yorke for the remainder of the “Journey to Germany” campaign.

The English FA recently hosted St Clair and during a round-up interview, St Clair made it clear that he still wants Yorke back in the team. Excerpts of the interview were carried on BBC and other English newspapers while the TTFF was bombarded with calls on Wednesday about St Clair’s statements.

"He’s been unhappy with his treatment in the past, but the country needs him now," he said with the passion in his voice clearly evident,” St Clair said.

It was also mentioned that current National Under 20 midfielder Keon Daniel is expected to take up a trial at Manchester United in January.

St Clair explained to TTFF Media on Wednesday that he still has not closed the door on any player.

“Dwight and I have kept in contact over the years and I spoke to him recently while I was in England. I told him that the door remains open if he would like to play for Trinidad and Tobago. My approach has always been to do what is in the best interest of the national team and I try not to close the door on any player, local or overseas-based,” he told TTFF Media.

“There are some local players who have been invited to train and they continue to ignore the invitation. The door remains open to them as well. However if they decide to join us ,they must be prepared to work hard and give 100% at all times.
“Playing in a World Cup is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it can do a great deal for a professional footballer. For the older player it can extend his career for a few more years and for the younger player, it can push him into the big times”.

Reflecting on his English trip, St Clair said: “The FA have taken good care of me while I’ve been in England," added St Clair. "I’ve enjoyed being here and welcome this opportunity - it’s been a hectic week!" He paid visits to West Ham United, Arsenal and Manchester United, and the Trinidad and Tobago coach was certainly impressed by what he saw.

"I went to Carrington [Manchester United] recently – amazing!", he exclaimed blowing out his cheeks. "They have table tennis, and a wall of lights to help vision and reactions."

Following his return home, St Clair took charge in the 4-0 win over British Virgin Islands, and also conducted a Wednesday morning training session at the Ato Boldon Stadium.
