While some Trinbagonians are losing hope in the Soca Warriors’ chances of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, Managing Director of G5 Distributors Limited Geoffrey Edwards and his team are doing their part to revive the wavering support for the nation’s footballers. Edwards says the launch of the new clothing line SW (Soca Warriors), under the flagship brand La Pluma Negra, aims to bridge the gap between urban fashion and entertainment—and rekindle national and Caribbean spirit.

SW becomes reality
La Pluma Negra, which means ‘the black feather’ in Spanish, originated in Jamaica some six years ago. Since then, the Caribbean brand has made its mark in both regional and international fashion industries with its high quality, authentic clothing. “The brand’s objective is to ink bold, trendy, sexy and sophisticated designs that reflect the Caribbean’s diversified culture,” says Edwards. Riding on the wave of all the hype and excitement surrounding the Soca Warriors’ quest to set foot on the football field in South Africa next year, the SW line became reality in June and was dedicated to all Soca Warriors fans.

Admitting that the brand is not yet popular in this country, Edwards says his team is working assiduously to turn things around. “La Pluma Negra is distributed exclusively by G5 in T&T and Barbados. Our intention is to increase brand visibility, while increasing market share,” asserts the 28-year-old. With citizens having to dig deeper into their pockets in light of the global economic crunch, G5 has employed a rather unusual but highly effective marketing ploy to garner sales. “Our SW fashion guru delivers all the apparel, anywhere in Trinidad, free of charge,” he says. “We want the client to know that we are going the extra mile for them.”

Goodies in store
Available in a variety of sizes, SW represents the red, white and black to the fullest. The clothing line caters to men, women and children and carries its own unique, eye catching designs. Edwards says customer satisfaction is guaranteed as each item of clothing is created from “cutting-edge fibre blends”, which makes it very comfortable.

With plans to introduce 12 more “T&T inspired” clothing lines in the not too distant future, the Freeport native says good things are in store for those choosing to support the SW clothing line, including discounts and corporate specials. “You can also register to join the SW touring team to get discounts on our after limes at Mangoes on the Avenue,” he adds. “SW represents Caribbean culture and recognises us as a people. We’re aiming to become the number-one Caribbean-inspired urban brand with international appeal.”
