Collin SamuelCollin Samuel has revealed he is still waiting for his 2006 World Cup bonus.

Samuel is one of 16 players who were at one stage caught up in a dispute with the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation over payments due the Soca Warriors for qualifying for the finals in Germany.

The players had a deal with TTFF under which they would receive 50% of all profits generated through reaching the finals.

But after rejecting an offer of $5600 a man from the TTFF the players threatened strike action and a bitter legal row broke out.

At the request of the TTFF the matter was placed before the London-based Sports Resolution Panel who ruled in favour of Samuel and company.

But the St Johnstone attacker disclosed yesterday that approaching four years on from qualification he still hasn’t seen a cent.

“I really don’t know what’s happening there,” he said.

“We’ve won our case. Now it’s about getting the payout.

“We have people working behind the scenes on our behalf, but as for when we’ll see some return on that, who knows.

“It’s been a long wait for all the boys concerned.

“And they are still calculating what we are due —and how much all the legal costs involved will be.

“One day we’ll see the money, but I’m not sitting waiting for the cheque. I’m taking the view that if it comes it comes.”

If that long-running dispute isn’t causing Samuel to lose any sleep, he admits having his comeback from cartilage surgery delayed by the bad weather is.

“This is the worst winter I’ve experienced in Scotland,’’ he said.

“I’ve never felt it so cold or seen as many matches postponed.

“And the fact this spell has clashed with my recovery from injury has left me really frustrated.

“After getting 15 minutes against Kilmarnock and two minutes against Hibs I was desperate to get a run out in the bounce match we had planned on Tuesday to put myself in contention for the weekend. But the weather put paid to that.

“I’ve done as much as I could have training wise.

“Hard pitches are a concern for me. It’s a worry that pounding away on a solid surface might aggravate the joint. And I have to limit what I can do on astroturf.

“But I’ve kept ticking over.

“It’s just sharpness I need, which will only come from matches.”
