Former national goalkeeper Michael “Brow” Maurice was at the helm of the Soca Warriors training session yesterday afternoon at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo due to the absence of national head coach Russell Latapy.
Latapy, who was charge of the Soca Warriors for their mid-week 2-0 international loss away to Chile at the Estadio Tierra de Campeones, Iquique, is currently out of the country. He is also expected to miss next Monday’s training session as well according to team manager, David Muhammad.
In addition to Maurice, a member of the 1989 “Strike Squad” team, other members of the technical staff to oversee the two hour training session include Dave Isaac (physiotherapist), T&T Football Federation Technical Director Lincoln “Tiger” Phillips, and physical trainers, Gregory Seales and Orlando Griffith.
Of the 18 players who travelled with the T&T team to Chile, 15 were present for Wednesday’s session. They included W Connection’s Clyde Leon, Kern Cupid, Hughtun Hector, Mathew Bartholomew, Jan-Michael Williams, Keron “Ball Pest” Cummings and Joevin Jones, the son of former Strike Squad left back Kelvin Jones,
The Defence Force quartet of Devon Jorsling, Kevon Carter, Aklie Edwards and Keston Williams, Caledonia’s Densill Theobald and Keon Daniel, Ma Pau’s Devon Jamerson, and Jesse Stewart of UTT were also present.
The missing trio were Caledonia’s Daneil Cyrus (illness), W Connection striker Shahdon Winchester (illness) and Joe Public goalkeeper, Andre Marcahan.
Also missing the session were the members of the bmobile Joe Public and San Juan Jabloteh teams who were involved in the Caribbean Football Union Club Champions Cup which ended at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya on Sunday night.
Those players included the Joe Public’s Kerry Baptiste, Trent Noel, Marvin Phillip, Radanfah Abu Bakr, Hayden Tinto and Makan Hislop and the Jabloteh pair of Robert Primus and Jason Marcano.
The overseas-based duo of Ipswich winger Carlos Edwards and Khaleem Hyland of Zulte Waregem were also present at the training session, but only as onlookers.
Edwards was not used in Ipswich’s 3-0 loss to Sheffield United in their final match of the season to end in 15th spot in the English Championship Division on Saturday while Hyland and his Belgium club, just missed out on a spot in Europe after placing sixth in their league campaign.
