Team in training.Midfielder Kareem Young of Digicel Pro League champions, bmobile Joe Public was the only uncapped player named in the 20-man Soca Warriors squad that left for Panama yesterday.

The Soca Warriors, coming off a 3-1 loss to Jamaica at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, on August 11 will face Panama on Tuesday in Panama City, before heading to a Belmopan, Belize for a meeting with its national team on Friday September 10.

The matches are being used by coach Russell Latapy as part of the Soca Warriors’ continued preparations for the Digicel Caribbean Cup Second Round qualifying group series in T&T from November, 2-6.

Young, a former national youth team golfer has been an integral part of the Joe Public midfield which help the team to a historic five titles last season alongside fellow national team-mate and clubmates, Trent Noel and Hayden Tinto.

A hard tackling midfielder, Young and fellow Carenage-resident and W Connection defender, Joevin Jones, are the only two newcomers in the squad which was beaten by Jamaica 3-1.

The players who were part of the team for the Jamaica match but missing out on the two-match tour are W Connection’s Shahdon Winchester, Devon Jamerson of Ma Pau and the Puerto Rico Islanders’ pair of Keon Daniel and Kendall Jagdeosingh. Winchester is currently on trial with Scottish club, Celtic.

Other regulars, making the trip yesterday included the Defence Force quartet of Keston Williams, Aklie Edwards, Devon Jorsling and Kevon Carter; Joe Public’s Carlyle Mitchell, Marvin Phillip, Makan Hislop, Noel, Tinto, Young and Kerry Baptiste; W Connection’s Jan-Michael Williams, Kern Cupid, Joevin Jones, Hughtun Hector, Matthew Bartholomew, Caledonia AIA pair, Daneil Cyrus and Densill Theobald, Ataullah Guerra and Jason Marcano of San Juan Jabloteh.

The Soca Warriors will have a busy next few weeks as they are also scheduled to play matches against Antigua & Barbuda (September 17), St Lucia (September 21), Guyana (September 26), Bermuda (October 6) and four days later a return match with Jamaica.
